Good Things at Ray Miller Elementary

“Good Science Things” at Ray Miller Elementary School

The “Good Things” segment of the February school board meeting found 3 students from Mrs. Lori Pinkston’s class showcasing recent *METS learning activities.   The student presentations were related to robotics and structural engineering.   Nils Hammond  showcased a working robot that he had designed, constructed and programmed in class.   The robot used light sensor technology to remain in a defined area.  The software Nils used for programming was developed by National Instruments.  Aaron Krusniak and Tyler Hanson presented their design of a trebuchet.  Trebuchets use a counterweight mechanism to launch objects.  The trio also proposed theories related to bridge engineering and safety.   The student’s efforts brought plenty of smiles and applause from the audience.

*METS is a statewide effort to foster Math, Engineering, Technology and Science (METS) education.
