All State Band auditions were held Saturday, December 4 at Hickman High School in Columbia. Seven students auditioned- Forrest Beck, Geordan Beck, Jessica Jewell, Bethany Poyner, Chris Shinn, Austin Motley and Lily Ewing. Forrest Beck is 2nd alternate in the French horn section. Austin Motley is 1st chair trombone in the All State Band and will attend the Missouri Music Educators Conference at Tan Tar A in January.
Forty-two KHS Band students auditions for the Northeast District Bands on Saturday, November 13. Twelve students were chosen for the two District Bands. Students chosen for the Honorable Mention District Band were: Geordan Beck– flute, Jessica Jewell– oboe, Ethan Murphy– tuba, Katie Fitzgerald– clarinet, Violet Odzinski– clarinet, Ceci Shuey– clarinet and Kelly Keener– clarinet. Five students were selected for the top band, the Northeast Missouri All-District Band, and they are eligible to audition for All-State Band this Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010. Those students were: Austin Motley– trombone, Forrest Beck– French horn, Bethany Poyner– bari saxophone, Lily Ewing– clarinet, and Chris Shinn– alto saxophone. Geordan Beck and Jessica Jewell were named alternates to the All District Band, so they are also eligible to audition for All-State.

The KHS Music Department's Celebrity Dinner was held on Friday,
January 21 at the Kirksville Primary School. The dinner was prepared
by Sue Barrett and the Kirksville R-III Schools Kitchen Staff. A
"celebrity" dessert auction was led by Lathe Nunan and music was
provided by the KHS Jazz Band and the Kirksville High School Chamber
Choir. The music department profited approximately $7,000 from the
event- including ticket sales, auction and waiter tips.

Kirksville Hosted the MSHSAA District Music Festival on April 1-2. The Kirksville Band had a successful day. Among the students who participated, 15 solos and 2 ensembles received 1 ratings and will be participating in the State Music Festival on April 29 in Columbia.

The following ensembles received a 1 rating : saxophone trio- Chris Shinn, Courtney Blodgett, and Catie Shuey, and a brass quintet- Abbey Northcutt, Steven Wilhelm, Forrest Beck, Austin Motley, Ethan Murphy.

The soloists that received a 1 rating were Forrest Beck, Madelin Collop, Geordan Beck, Catie Shuey, Margo Krause, Steven Wilhelm, Austin Motley, Ashley Lyon, Chris Shinn, Ethan Murphy, Josh Jewell, Jessica Jewell, Arabelle Reed, Elizabeth Howard, and Brianna Broach.
