Scholarships
The following applications are available
in the Counseling office or on the High School Guidance website; if an online
application is available the link is noted here. See your counselor if you have questions. Return paper applications to your Counselor by
the dates noted here in order to allow processing, mailing or selection by
deadlines. You are encouraged to seek other scholarships through employers,
organizations, churches, special interest groups or websites that pertain to
your interests and experience. Universities, colleges and technical
programs offer scholarships, however you must apply by their PRIORITY deadline.
Please be aware of the PRIORITY date for any college you are considering
attending.
Feb 8 – KFC Colonel’s Scholars: KFC is looking
for high school seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit to
qualify for this Scholars Program. Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees,
textbooks or room and board. To qualify high school seniors must have a minimum
2.75 GPA, planning to enroll in a public college or university within their
state of legal residence, plan to pursue a Bachelor’s degree, and demonstrate

Feb. 10 – National Co-op Scholarship
Program: If
you are interested in one of the following universities you may be eligible for
a Co-op Scholarship: Drexel University, Johnson & Wales, Kettering
University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati,
University of Toledo, or Wentworth Institute of Technology. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and
been accepted in one of the partner universities listed above. For scholarship application visit www.co-op.edu
Feb. 15 – Alzheimer’s Foundation of
America: Scholarships
of $5,000, $500 and $250 awarded. Essay from personal experiences in your
own families, watching friends and neighbors, or involvement in community
service. For more information on this scholarship and essay

Feb. 15 – Best Buy Scholarship: $1000
scholarships for 9th – 12th grade students. Solid grades
and community service or work experience recommended. Online application, visit www.bestbuy-communityrelations.com or www.at15.com

17 – GE/Ronald Reagan Foundation Scholarship: Twenty college
bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity and
citizenship will be awarded $10,000 renewable scholarships. Apply online

Feb. 17 – Foundation for Rural Services
Program Scholarship, Mark Twain Rural Telephone Company: $500 or $2500
scholarship for a senior planning to attend a 2 or 4 year program, have a
minimum C average, receive phone services from Mark Twain Rural Telephone and
have an interest in returning to a rural community. Complete applications must be submitted to
your counselor by Feb. 17th in order to submit for the necessary
signatures prior to the Feb. 21st deadline. Application includes 2
letters of recommendation, essay, educator’s statement, etc. Applications are
available in the Counseling office or online.
Feb. 24 – National Defense
Transportation Association (NDTA) Scott/St. Louis Chapter: Two scholarships
of $1500 or more for students planning to enroll in any degree, priority will
be given to business, transportation logistics or physical distribution. If you are a family member of the Scott/St
Louis Chapter NDTA you are also eligible to apply as a family member. Applications must be postmarked by March 1,
submit to your counselor by 2/24. Applications available in the Counseling
office.
Feb. 29 – Buick Achievers Scholarship Program: If you are college bound and community minded yet need financial assistance to attend college, you are encouraged to apply for this $2,000 plus scholarship. Applicants should have strong academic achievement, financial need, participate in community and school leadership, have experience or an interest in a career in the automotive or related industry. Special consideration will be given to the following: first generation to attend college, female, minority, military veteran or dependent of military personnel. March 1 – Kansas City Associated
Equipment Distributors Scholarship: $1000 scholarship for a senior planning
to pursue certification or associates degree in Diesel Mechanics or Heavy
Equipment Report. Must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per
semester, beginning in Fall 2012, minimum 2.5 GPA. Application is available in
the Counseling office or on the Counseling website. AED post secondary school
includes Linn State Technical College,
Des Moines Area Community College, Parkland College, Illinois Central College
and Oklahoma State-Okmulgee. Scholarship
recipients will be expected to maintain 3.0 GPA to renew scholarship the second
year.
March 1 – Sport Quest Playing With a
Purpose: Applicant
must be a Christian student athlete. For application and information go to www.allamericanaward.org/applicationformintro.html
March 1 – Lindenwood University; Black
& White Ball Scholarship: If planning to attend Lindenwood you may
wish to apply for this $2000-$7000 scholarship.
Applicants must have applied to Lindenwood and submitted scholarship
application by March 1. Application
requires essay, two letters of recommendation and transcript. FAFSA must also be completed by March 1.
March 5 – National Farmers Organization,
Farm Kids for College Scholarship: Three $1000 scholarships for a senior
planning to pursue a career in agriculture. To apply complete the two page
application, provide a picture, two letters of recommendation, official
transcript and type response to the following two essay questions:
1.
How can marketing production with other farmers and ranchers improve prices for
grain, dairy and livestock?
2.
Choose one strategy: Niche marketing, price risk management or price
negotiation. Discuss and give examples of how that strategy can increase
financial rewards on an independent farm.
All
applications due to State NFO Scholarship coordinator by March 12, therefore, return
to your counselor by March 5th in order to meet this

March 12 – Beyond the Cure: Childhood cancer
survivors are encouraged to apply for these substantial scholarships. If you
are a childhood cancer survivor who has
demonstrated the ability to overcome the difficult challenges of cancer
with determination and motivation visit www.beyondthecure.org Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA,
submit complete application with essay, financial information and 2 letters of
recommendation. Submit to your counselor by March 12 in order for your
application materials to be mailed by the deadline.
March 15 - MFA Foundation Scholarship: $2000
scholarship available to a senior planning to further their education in
agriculture or a career field that benefits rural life. Additional factors
include participation and leadership in school, church and community
activities; good citizenship and good moral character; financial need and
academic progress. Applications are available in the Counseling office or on
the KHS Counseling website.
March 15 – John P. Schwarz Scholarship: $1000
scholarship for high school senior planning to pursue a degree in music,
primarily band. Applicants must have been band member all 4 years in high
school, minimum GPA 3.0, an individual of good character, demonstrate
leadership in school & community. Applications available in the Counseling
office or on Counseling website.
March 20 – Patritto Orthodontics: Must be in grade
12 and have finished orthodontic treatment with Dr. Patritto, Ottumwa IA. Visit
the counseling office to pick up an application or visit the KHS scholarship
website.
March 20 – Young American Creative
Patriotic Art Contest: 9-12th graders are eligible to
participate in an art contest/scholarship.
Produce an original work of art on paper or canvas with water color,
pencil, pastel, charcoal, tempera, crayon, acrylic, pen & ink or oil.
Digital art is not accepted. Complete
application and submit your artwork to your counselor to deliver to the local
VFW Ladies Auxiliary chapter.
March 20 – Missouri Heart Institute
Foundation: $1000
scholarships for a graduating senior planning to pursue a degree in a health
career. Students must complete an
application, B average in high school and provide a narrative summarizing
personal attributes and goals.
Applications available in the Counseling office or on KHS Counseling
website.
March 23 – Missouri 4-H Foundation
Scholarship (due to the Adair Co Extension office by 3/23/12):
Due
to the generosity of a donor, the Missouri 4-H Foundation is offering
approximately 56 college scholarships ($500-$2500). 4-H members who are current
high school seniors AND former 4-Hers who are college students are eligible to
apply. High School applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, demonstrated
leadership and financial need. The scholarship guidelines and application
available on the Missouri
4-H
website at www.4h.missouri.edu/recognition/ or stop by the Counseling office for a paper
application. Applications must be submitted to you local Extension office by
the March 23rd deadline
March 23 – Missouri Women’s Golf Association & Missouri Women’s Golf Education Association: A scholarship established to recognize a female high school senior for her golf achievements, overall academic record and community service. If you are already receiving a full collegiate scholarship you will not be eligible. Applications available in the Counseling office, KHS website, or visit www.mowomensga.org/
March 23 – Missouri Insurance Education
Foundation: $1500
scholarships awarded to seniors planning to pursue a degree in insurance, risk
management, actuarial science or a related course of study. Applicants must
attend an accredited Missouri college or university full time. Applications
must be typed, provide a letter of application, one letter of recommendation
and a transcript required. Applications are available in the counseling office,
on Counseling website or visit www.mief.org
March 26 – Missouri University of Science
and Technology, Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, Building Better Men Scholarship: Two $500
scholarships to any non-Greek male planning to attend MO S&T, Rolla.
Applications will be considered based on academic achievement, leadership and
service experiences, athletic, community or extracurricular. Applicants being considered will be contacted
for phone interview as advanced.

March 27 - Adair/Schuyler County Farm
Bureau: $250
scholarship for an area senior planning to pursue post-secondary education in
any career field. Applicants must have maintained minimum 2.5 GPA, demonstrate
leadership & integrity, and their family must be current members of
Adair-Schuyler County Farm Bureau. Applications are available in the Counseling
office or on the KHS Counseling website.
March 30 – Ray Klinginsmith Rotary
Scholarship: 4
scholarships in the amounts of $500-$750 each. Applicants must demonstrate a
basic knowledge and value of service
with an essay addressing “Service Above Self” in their daily life and how this
concept plays a part in their future. Applicants will be considered based on
school and community activity experience, leadership/officer positions,
academic achievement, merit and extenuating circumstances. Applications available in the Counseling
office or Counseling website.
March
31 - U.S. Bank scholarship: 40 $1000 scholarships awarded.

April
9 – Merrell University of Beauty Arts and Science: $1000
scholarship for tuition to Merrell University in Moberly or Jefferson City. Upon
completion of 1500 clock hours in Cosmetology, Hairdressing & Manicuring at
Moberly or 1200 clock hours in Esthetics in Jefferson City, the recipient will
receive this scholarship for tuition.
Applicants must submit application, transcript, 2 letters of
recommendation, demonstrate good character and participate in an interview. Applications
available in the Counseling office and must be submitted to your counselor by
April 9th in order to be mailed and received by April 15. To apply

April 15 – American Legion
Scholarships: All applications must be
submitted to your counselor by April 15 in order to be mailed and received by
April 20th. Visit www.missourilegion.org to print scholarship application or pick up an
application in the Counseling office.
Lillie
Lois Ford Scholarship Fund: 2 scholarships of $1000. One presented
to a male student who has attended a full session of the American Legion Boys
State of Missouri or a full session of the Department’s Cadet Patrol Academy.
The Second scholarship is awarded to a female student who has attended a full
session of the American Legion Auxiliary’s Girls State program or a full
session of the Department’s Cadet Patrol Academy. Applications are available in
the guidance office.
M.D.
“Jack” Murphy Memorial nurses Training Fund: $750 award is given for two
successive semesters ($375 per semester) and by application can be extended for
two additional semesters. This award is available to any student training to be
a Registered Nurse, and may be used their freshman or subsequent college years.
Student must be in the top 40% of their class or have a “C” or equivalent
standing from their last college or university semester. Applications are
available in the guidance office.
Joseph
J. Frank Scholarship: Five awards of $500 are given annually to individuals
who are descendants of a veteran. Applicant must have attended a full session
of the American Legion Boys State or the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State
program. Applicants must be unmarried, under the age of 21, a current resident
of the state of Missouri and must use the scholarship as a full time student in
an accredited college or university. Applications are available in the guidance
office.
Charles
L. Bacon Memorial Scholarship: Two awards of $500 are given annually.
Eligible individuals who are currently members of the American Legion, the
American Legion Auxiliary, or the Sons of the American Legion, or a descendant
of a member of any thereof. Applicants must be unmarried, a resident of
Missouri, under the age of 21, and must use the scholarship as a full-time
student in an accredited college or university. Applications are available in
the guidance office.
Erman
W. Taylor Memorial Scholarship: Two $500 awards are given annually to a
student planning on obtaining a degree in education. To be eligible,
individuals must: (1) be a descendant of a veteran who served 90 or more days
of active duty in the armed forces and having an honorable discharge; (2) be a
Missouri resident; (3) use the award as a full-time student at an accredited
college or university (4) provide a copy of the discharge certificate for the
veteran on whose the application is made; and (5) submit an essay of 500 words
or less on the subject: In your opinion,
what was the most significant world event of 2011/2012? Applications are available in the
guidance office.
Shane Dean
Voyles Memorial Scholarship: One $500 award will be awarded,
annually. (1) Each
school
in the State of Missouri may nominate ONE student to be considered for the
award. (2) The
nominee
will be selected on athletic, scholastic and leadership abilities. The nominee
should be deeply
involved
in community and school activities. (4) Must use the award as a full- time
student at an
accredited
college or university.
April 30 – David G. Smith Memorial
Scholarship Fund: $300
scholarship available to students who have participated in basketball for 2 or
more years during high school, plan on attending a two or four year
college/university, have achieved an overall 3.0 GPA, and students must

June 1 – Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services: Students accepted in a nursing program approved by the MO State Board of Nursing may be eligible for a $2500-$5000 possible forgiveness loan if considering working in rural or underserved areas.
