PROGRAM DESCRIPTION 
Automotive Collision Repair is a 1020-hour program designed for those who are interested in obtaining employment in the field of auto body repair/refinishing.  The program is available part-time to HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS & SENIORS as (1) three-hour block in the morning or afternoon.  Students must commit to two years to be a completer of the program. Approximately one-third of the instructional time devoted to theory and the remainder allotted to laboratory experiences including demonstrations and theory applications.  Students are responsible for the repair of approximately ten vehicles annually utilizing the latest tools and equipment including those designed for repair of the unibody type cars. 

​High school students, grades 10-12, may also choose an introductory class to expose them to the program.

COURSES OFFERED

Intro to Refinish Technology and Metal Working
Credit: 1.0     Grace Level: 9-12
Students enrolled in this class will participate in mostly hands-on learning that will take place in the shop. Classroom time will be limited. Students will learn basic skills for using hand tools, power tools and refinishing equipment  for a variety of projects. This class will also cover the basic fundamentals of welding and cutting metals. 

Automotive Collision Repair 1 & 2
Credit: 3.0-6.0     Grade Level: 11-12
In this 2-year program you will receive hands-on training that will develop skill sets to help jump start your collision repair career. The program will include the following:  
⁃ Safe & Proper use of tools of the trade
⁃ Damage Analysis & Utilizing estimating software
⁃ Researching and comprehending vehicle makers repair procedures
⁃ Body panel repair utilizing hybrid PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) & Glue Pull techniques
⁃ Bolt on panel replacement
⁃ Weld-on panel replacement with squeeze type resistance spot welders, mig welders and weld bond procedures
⁃ Surface preparation & masking
⁃ Paint mixing & color matching with solvent and water based paints
⁃ Refinishing new and repaired panels
⁃ Sanding & Polishing to remove paint defects and matching factory finishes

In addition, the program will also provide the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on custom projects such as race cars, hot rods, motorcycles and more. Tasks involved with these projects will include:
⁃ Fiberglass & Carbon Fiber panel fitment and repair
⁃ Sheet metal panel fitment and repair
⁃ Rust repair & patch panel fabrication and installation
⁃ Airbrushing & Graphics
⁃ Refinish application with pearls, candies, metal flake and more
⁃ Sanding & polishing to create a mirror like finish

An additional year of training for students who have completed Auto Collision Repair 1 & 2 can be taken as an adult student.

​​ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Upon successful completion of a two-year program in Automotive Collision Repair, students are eligible to receive one additional credit of embedded Technical Education Math.

  • Students are encouraged to join Skills USA.

  • Students meeting requirements are eligible to be nominated for National Technical Honor Society.
