PROGRAM DESCRIPTION  

Automotive Technology is a 1020-hour program designed for those who are interested in entering the field of automotive or diesel truck/equipment service.  The program is available part-time to HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS & SENIORS as (1) three-hour block in the morning or afternoon.  Students must commit to two years to be a completer of the program. Students attending 540 hours or more and successfully complete the requirements may receive Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR) certification. Students attending 840 hours or more and successfully complete the requirements may receive Automotive Service Technician (AST) certification. Students attending 2100 hours and successfully complete the requirements will receive the Master Automotive Service Technician (MAST) certification.
 
You will learn the mechanical and electrical principles to service today's complicated and integrated systems of the modern automobile. You will achieve these goals in both the classroom and shop.  The combination of class time as well as hands-on shop experience will prepare you for the Automotive Service Excellence Certification program.  Successful completion of the eight specialized areas covered will prepare you to enter the automotive industry as a certified technician to specialize in the field of your choice.  Upon completion of the program, students will complete the ASE student certification exam.

COURSES OFFERED

Introduction to Automotive Technology Credit: 1.0     Grade Level: 9-12

This course provides training in shop processes used to repair modern vehicles.  This is an introduction to the operating systems of the modern automobile, changes in the industry, and identification and safe use of tools. Limited shop experience with the one-hour class. 

Automotive Technology 1 & 2 Credits: 3.0-6.0      Grade Level: 11-12

In this 2-year program you will learn the mechanical and electrical principles to service the complicated and integrated systems of today’s automobile.  You will achieve these goals in both the classroom and shop. The combination of class time as well as hands-on shop experience will prepare you for the Automotive Service Excellence Certification program.  Successful completion of the eight specialized areas covered will prepare you to enter the automotive industry as a certified technician to specialize in the field of your choice.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 

●Students successfully completing Automotive Technology 1 may be eligible for Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR) certification. Students successfully completing Automotive Technology 2 may be eligible to receive Automotive Service Technician (AST) certification. High school graduates may enroll for Automotive Technology III to meet the requirements for Master Automotive Service Technician (MAST) certification.

 ● Students successfully completing Automotive Technology 2 will take ASE certification and air conditioning licensing tests. Those students who complete Automotive Technology 2 and would like to continue their education are eligible to articulate with credit of the following schools: State Technical College of Missouri, Indian Hills Community College, North Central Community College, Lincoln Technical College University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) and Universal Technical Institute.

 ● Upon successful completion of a two-year program in Automotive Technology, students are eligible to receive one additional credit of embedded Technical Education Math.

 ● Students are encouraged to join Skills USA.

 ● Students meeting requirements are eligible to be nominated for National Technical Honor Society.
