Kirksville R-III School District Meal Charging Policy

It is the goal of Kirksville R-III School District Food Service to provide students with healthy meals each day. In doing so, unpaid meal charges place a financial burden on our Food Service Department. This policy intends to provide uniform meal account procedures throughout the Kirksville R-III School District. The policy pertains to regular priced breakfast, lunches and ala carte items.


Full Pay Students Kindergarten through Middle School Students will pay for meals at the district’s published standard rate. A student will be allowed to charge a maximum of five (5) meals to their account after the balance reaches zero. Once a student has charged those five (5) meals, he or she will be offered a designated alternative meal. The meal will include a cheese sandwich for Primary students, a Peanut Butter Sandwich for Ray Miller students and a cold ham or turkey sandwich for Middle School in addition to fruit, vegetable and milk. This designated meal will be charged to the students account at the standard rate. At no time will any student be allowed to charge ala carte items, every student must have money in their account to purchase ala carte items in addition to parental permission.

High School Students - All High School Students will pay for meals at the district’s published standard rate. A student will be allowed to charge a maximum of two (2) meals to their account after the balance reaches zero. Once a student has charged those two (2) meals, he or she will be offered a designated alternative meal. The meal will include a cold ham or turkey sandwich, fruit, vegetable and milk. This designated meal will be charged to the students account at the standard rate. At no time will any student be allowed to charge ala carte items, every student must have money in their account to purchase ala carte items in addition to parental permission.

Free Meal Benefit – Free status students will be allowed to receive a free breakfast and lunch each day. All ala carte items must be prepaid using the student’s lunch account. If a student brings their own lunch from home and needs a milk this must be paid for also. The Free Meal Benefit only coves complete meals.

Reduced Meal Benefit Kindergarten through Middle School reduced status students will be allowed to receive a breakfast for $.30 and a lunch for $.40 each day. A student will be allowed to charge five (5) meals to their account after the balance reaches zero. High School reduced status students may charge a maximum of two (2) meals to their account after the balance reaches zero. Once a student has charged those meals, he or she will be provided the designated alternative meal. This designated meal will be charge to the students account at the reduce rate. At no time will any student be allowed to charge ala carte items, every student must have money in their account to purchase ala carte items in addition to parental permission.

Parents/Guardians are responsible for meal payment to the food service program. Notices will be sent home weekly if your student owes more than $5.00. Parent, Guardians, students may pay for meals in advance by visiting myschoolbucks.com website. You will need your student id number to set up an account. Or checks may be sent to your student’s cashier, be sure that your student’s name is in the memo so we credit it to the correct student. Any remaining funds for a particular student will be carried over to the next school year. Refunds – for withdrawn, and graduating students: please drop us a note or email with a current phone number and address and a refund will be issued at the next School Board meeting. Students who are graduating will be given the option of moving the money to a siblings account.

Unclaimed Funds – must be requested within one school year. Unclaimed funds will then become the property of the Kirksville R-III Food Service Program.
