Special education and related services are available for students with educational disabilities starting on their third birthday and continuing to age 21.
Preschool aged children with special needs who are eligible for special education services can access those services in a variety of educational environments by contacting the Early Childhood Special Education Department at the Early Childhood Learning Center.
For students Kindergarten-eligible through twelfth grade, special education services are provided by a wide array of professionals within the Kirksville R-III School District. These professionals include special education teachers, speech/language pathologists and occupational/physical therapists.

- Intellectual Disabilities
- Visual Impairments/Blindness
- Multiple Disabilities
- Specific Learning Disabilities
- Emotional Disturbance
- Speech and Language Impairment
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Orthopedic Impairment
- Other Health Impairments
- Hearing Impairment and Deafness
- Young Child with a Developmental Delay
For children 5-21 years old who reside in the Kirskville R-III School District and are homeschooled or attend a private/parochial school that may have special education needs, parents should contact the Office of Special Services to inquire about the special education process.
A compliance plan, required by state and federal law, is available for public review at the District Administration Offices between the hours of 8AM and 4PM Monday through Friday.
