Happy Valentine's Day, Kirksville! We thought we'd celebrate the love over the coming days by sharing the stories of some of our staff members who happen to be married to another one of our staff members. Let's start with Mr. and Mrs. Chapman.
Mr. Rich Chapman teaches engineering through Project Lead the Way at Kirksville Area Technical Center. Mrs. Melissa Chapman teaches sixth grade at William Matthew Middle School. They met right here in Kirksville during college at Truman State.
The story goes that Rich was a Psychology major from Camp Point, IL while Melissa was an English Pre-Master of Arts in Education major from Blue Springs and when Rich graduated he took a job working as a juvenile officer back in Illinois. Melissa was still here finishing her degree. Rich couldn't stay away! Melissa and Rich got married and he moved back to Kirksville. Now they both work for the district--Melissa for over 20 years! The Chapmans are the proud parents of two daughters, currently in college, who both happen to be KHS grads!

Kirksville Area Technical Center students and staff hosted the Northeast District SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference today, 2/14/25. Students competed in various leadership, skills, and occupational-related contests with students from across NEMO. Many KATC students took home medals, including the Kirksville Health Knowledge Bowl Team A placing first while Kirksville Team B took second place. Way to go, KATC students!

National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day is tomorrow, February 15!
Let's show some love a day early on Valentine's Day to our SRO, Officer Rich Harden. He can be found everywhere around our campus, making sure our schools are safe and secure. Whether he’s walking the hallways, supervising athletic events, patrolling our streets and parking lots, or teaching DARE classes, Officer Harden is always looking out for our students and staff.
Let's take a moment to thank Rich for everything he does!
